STRIKE: NA GOING BACK ON DECISION —ASUU PRESIDENT.
Di Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) don talk say dem no dey go back on dia decision to take continue with di strike wey dey go on, following Federal Government failure to honour dia 2009 agreement.
ASUU President, wey Prof. Emmanuel Osedeke, talk am for one interview with di News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday for Abuja.
Osedeke talk say di union bin take di difficult decision’ after dem don exhaust all dia avenues wey dey available to take amicably settle di matter with di Federal Government.
“Make I give you example, because dis na where we dey get am wrong, when do
airline operators talk say dem go stop di flights, di Senate and House of Representatives flfon quickl stepped in.
“Dois na because dem dey affected; dem quickly rush in and d dem address di problem, why be say dem no wan resolve dat loyal of di education sector dey affect di children of di poor and di ordinary people
“If di government dey willing to resolve di issues wey dey affecting di Nigerians, dem we no go need to go on strike.
“Di problem na di will of government to resolve issues,” he talk.
NAN recalls say ASUU for Monday extend di roll-over strike wey started on Feb. 14 dem add another 12 weeks.
Di striking lecturers’ demand dey include, funding of di revitalisation of public universities, Earned Academic Allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) and promotion arrears dem.
Odas na di renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement and di inconsistency to take Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.
Osedeke tell NAN say dem never meet any of dose demands from di Federal Government.
“All di issues wey make to go on strike still dey dia; dat one na di revitalisation fund, wey be putting more money into universities dem and revitalising di infrastructure for di universities.
“Di issue of our mode of payments in di universities sef dey on ground. No university dey for di world wia dem dey pay lecturers from di Accountant General’s Office.
“We don challeng dem say make dem provide one, if universities na universal body, why be say dem dey things differently.
“We dey talk of negotiation of agreement, proliferation of universities, among others, so a lots of issues wey dem never resolve dey ground,” he tell NAN.
Di ASUU president also talk say di government don also refused to accept UTAS wey he talk say don dey tested and passed with score99.3 per cent.
Osedeke urge di Federal Government say make dem do di needful in order for students to return back to schools.
