“I don call dis meeting to take enable us to discuss di increase of Facebook use by di separatists and anarchists, especially dos of dem wey dey based outside di country, to Dey instigate violence and ethnic hatred for Nigeria.
“For whatever reason, dem don dey choose to Dey use Facebook as their platform of choice. And dey use Facebook as dia tools to include wrong information, bad statements dem and hate speech. Dem dey use Facebook broadcasts to Dey reach dia followers, wey dem plenty for thousand. Dem dey tag dose opposed to go use dia violent ways as ‘saboteurs’ wey must dey attacked, catch and kill. Dem dey use both English and dia local language as e dey suit dem,” Alhaji Mohammed talk.
He talk say di actions of di group get real-life implications, adding say: ”To dey promote hate and to Dey incite violence, people dey die while di private and public property dem dey attack and destroy dem. Security agencies dem and oda symbols of di government now na dia target.”
Di Minister talk say despite di numerous complaints to Facebook about di activities of IPOB, dem no anything to any of di company to take stop di group of di excess for di social media platform.
“Our social media people don bin dey monitor dis people wey wan separate people, anarchists and promoters of hate, and dem don dey report dis atrocity actions for Facebook, but watin dem dey get na they default responses say dia complaints don dey received and dem go look into am.
Most often than not, dem no dey do anything about such complain… Di truth be say whatever Facebook dey do to check dis people dey for ordinary mouth and e no dey effective,” he talk.
Alhaji Mohammed talk say di government go dey monitor Facebook and oda platforms well well for later days ahead to take ensure say dem comply with di demand, as e dey step up di campaign for di responsible use of social media.
“We don always advocate responsible use of social media, and dey consistently call on all stakeholders to help join to take achieve dis. Some don tag our efforts as attempt to stifle social media. Dem dey wrong becos we no get intention to prevent Nigerians from using social media so long dem use am responsibly. All we just dey do na to advocate for responsible use of social media,” he talk.
