Nollywood actress, Chioma Toplis, on Tuesday don dey remand at di Nigeria Correctional Centre, Afara, by one Magistrate Court sitting for Umuahia, Abia State over defamation.

The 48-year-old don dey accused of alleged cybercrime say she use her Facebook page to post “a malicious publication”(intend to harm) against di Chairman of Abia State Traditional Prime Ministers Council, High Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu, wey dem popularly know am as BAWAS.
According to di charge sheet marked 124c/2022, di actress dey accuse of using her Facebook page take tag Akwukwuegbu as “a rapist and a ritualist”.
For di court document titled “Inspector General of Police vs Chioma Toplis ‘f’ aged 48”, the accused commit the alleged offence between May 28, 2021 and May 31, 2021.
Di one-count read, “Dat you Chioma Toplis ‘f’ between di 28th and 31st of May, 2021, while you dey reside for Nigeria, and be say you be social network user, and you dey under the Umuahia North Magisterial District and knowingly and maliciously publish for your Facebook page “CHIOMA TOPLIS” di following: ‘Ur rapist papa invite his daughter in-law (now Ex) to Nigeria without his son’s consent and sleep with her’.
“You also con am say he be ritualist wey use his last daughter for di sacrificial lamb of di
family, hence she dey perpetually sick and hidden for inside the house. Di publication wey you know say na false(no be true) and intend to just cause annoyance, inconveniences, danger, obstruction, enmity, hatred, ill-will or needless anxiety to di person wey be Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu, di Chairman of Abia State Traditional Prime Ministers Council, a renowned Community Leader and business mogul, and so you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 24(b)of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015, as applicable for Abia State.
After reading di count charge, dem no gree plea for bail, and di trial Chief Magistrate, Idika Kalu, ordered day the accused go dey remanded for the Afara Correctional Centre, Umuahia.
The matter bin dey adjourned till April 14, 2022.
Speaking with newsmen later, di plaintiff, Chief Akwukwuegbu, who dey identified di accused as his sister-in-law, expressed say he dey worried on why she go do something like that to take blackmail him.
BAWAS expressed say he no get any idea of all the allegations(things), lamenting say he still dey at a loss why di accused go fit even go resort to do cheap blackmail to disrepute am, he even insist that She gats to substantiate(retalk am) all her claims.
He alleged say the accused bin don dey boast say she was highly “connected and untouchable after she don rubbish me on her Facebook page but she gats to prove am for the court”.
