The Nigerian singer Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, who dey go for a seat in the House of Representatives to represent the Eti-Osa federal constituency for Lagos State, has talk say despite the prospect of being outspent by other aspirants, he got stands a chance to take win the seat due to the sense of vision wey he get.
Banky W dey argue say he no dey defeated for the 2019 elections but say im succeed for “planting a seed” for the collective consciousness of Nigerian youths ahead of the 2023 elections.
Wellington also tell dis to journalists at the Peoples Democratic Party’s Wadata Plaza secretariat for Abuja when he obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms for N600,000.
He argue say Nigerian youths no longer wan dey sit down alone dey complain but must join di mainstream political platforms wey go give them di chance to play a part to dey rebuild the nation.
For his chances in the forthcoming elections, he talk say, “In a David and Goliath situation, I Dey more comfortable to be David. You know, di stakes dey high, di big machine dey against us, but I do believe say watin we fit more get na money we have in meaning. We get mission. We get message.
“I think say if Lagosians dey truly happy with di way everything dey happen, then maybe we no go get change. But somehow I Dey suspect say no be so di case be and I know say the people dey ready for something fresh, something different, something unique, something wey speaks to the heart of person who wan serve and who wan see say the nation Nigeria go better.
So I Dey content to stand on my own two feet with di support of di PDP and even di support of our young people and di support of my community in saying that, because I know say we represent something different.”
Speaking of di antecedents wey lead to im defeat for the 2019 elections, Wellington talk say even tho he declared the candidacy only three months before election day, he still nailed(reach) di third spot for the race.
“You talk say the 2019 was unsuccessful, and I completely disagree. If you recall in 2019, I no show up for post for the office until three months before election day, which is completely unheard of, dem never hear an before.
“So for us for 2019, it wasn’t about winning a seat. Na about planting a seed. And watin I think be say we successfully do am because watin we do was, we came third, and we win for some wards and polling units wey be say strongholds dey for either of the two big parties.
“But at that time, na about showing young people say this na something wey be say supos get involved in even though we dey late to di race. We just planted a seed, make we just stick our toe inside di waters,” he talk.
The aspirant(person wey wan get the post) also talk say he choose to run on di platform of di PDP becus di party opened its arms to di youths.
“I believe say with di PDP a genuine intention dey to give di young people seat for the table? I believe say we sure get chance to build a bridge between dos who don dey inside the political terrain for many years now and dos of us wey don dey protest from the side.
“I believe say the PDP dey welcome us with open arms and open doors. And so, I Dey very grateful to di party for di warm welcoming wey them give me,” Banky W talk.
