One Ophthalmologist, Dr Ayodeji Alade wey dey work for the General Hospital, Omuaran, Kwara State don warn people make them dey prevent their eyes against getting exposed to excess light and heat to avoid damage to the cornea of the eyes wey fit result to blindness.
Alade give the warning for interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Omu-Aran on Friday.
Him explain say exposure to excessive light and heat fit lead to the growth of pterygium, infection of the eye wey be say na dust, heat, smoke, pollen and wind dey cause am.
Him say the disease dey happen more often in people wey dey live for warm climates and people wey dey spend plenty time for environments wey get plenty sun or wind.
The expert further explain say the symptoms of pterygium include redness, person no go see well, eye go dey scratch and burning sensation or itches.
According to Alade, other eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, trachoma and presbyopia fit be result of lifestyle, age, sickness or dirty environment.
Him advise people to maintain high level of hygiene and make them dey wear something wey go protect their eyes during high-risk jobs or harsh weather.
