The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) don fine DAAR Communications (owner of AIT/Raypower) N500,000 because dem dey always go against the Nigeria Broadcasting Code
The commission Head of Public Affair, Mrs Maimuna Jimada, for one statement wey she make on Saturday for Abuja, say the kind things wey dem talk for the programme `Political Platform’ wey dem dey do for Raypower dey against the broadcasting code.
Jimada say dem fine the organisation because of comments wey the hosts of the Political Platform make on top the programme.
She also say the Commission hold meeting with staff of DAAR Communications on May 2, 2017, Aug. 15, 2017 and February 2018 to warn dem about the way wey people wey dey host the programme take dey yan. Mrs Jimada say the Commission reason with the team wey dey handle the programme make dem dey fair and make dem balance their report. According to her, during the Feb. 7 meeting, the Commission say e dey important for the organisation to obey the broadcasting code to avoid wahala.
“The Political Platform episode on July 24, was marked by sensational and heated expression of opinion by its anchors, who went on to make unproven and inciting allegations. For avoidance of doubt, the Director-General drew the attention of DAAR Communications to the following provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code: (1) Section 1.9.3: “A presenter/anchor shall not express his or her personal opinion in a programme. Also Section 5.2.7:“A broadcaster shall, in using political material for news, avoid taking inflammatory and divisive matter in its provocative form and Section 5.2.5 stated that political broadcasts shall be in decent language.”
