The dreaded Cerebrospinal Meningitis, CRM, disease don hit Lagos State, as e kill two people wey make national death toll rise reach 438, according to statistics wey Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC release on Friday.
The statistics wey NCDC release reveale say as at 5 April, 2017, three cases of Meningitis dey recorded for Lagos out of which two people come die.
According to the report, a total of 3,959 cases with 438 deaths na the report, with 181 cases so far wey don dey confirmed for laboratory.
The NCDC say the increase in number of cases na as a result of intensified case-finding wey dey go on for the affected States.
Meningitis outbreaks dey currently for 19 States with five States mostly affected, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto in the North-West zone and Niger in the North-Central zone of Nigeria.
The most common serotype na Neisseria meningitidis serotype C (Nm C). Meningitis EOC don deploy personnel to go support response activities for the five most affected States.
The NCDC report say the 3,959 reported cases with 438 deaths na from 106 LGAs for the country, with Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto States in the North-West zone, and Niger State in the North-Central zone accounting for about 95% of the cases reported.
“A total of 181 positive cases wey Pastorex and Culture confirm na; Neisseria meningitides serotype C and na the most common serotype wey dey account for 83% of laboratory confirmed cases. The most affected age group na 5-14 years and accounts for 52% of cases,” him say.
