Without Sharp and Positive Response From FG, The Strike Go Continue – ASUU


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) National President, Biodun Ogunyemi yesterday give the conditions wey them go take call off the strike. Him say na only speedy and positive response from the Federal Government to their letter go end the dispute.

Ogunyemi say the letter wey date August 28 contain the union position on wetin the government dey offer in respect to the issues wey dey at stake.

The ASUU boss identify “registration of Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO), fractionalisation of salaries in federal universities and underfunding/non – funding of state universities” as issues wey require resolution between the ASUU and the federal government.

Others include arrears and implementation of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), release of fund for revitalisation of the nation’s public universities as e dey for the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding, guidelines for retirement benefits of professors in line with the 2009 FGN – ASUU agreement, Treasury Single Account(TSA) and withdrawal of support for universities’ staff primary schools.

The ASUU National President later appreciate Nigerians, particularly students, parents and the media for their understanding “on the need to speedily address the issues in the best interest of the university system and overall development of the nation.”

The union begin the comprehensive and total strike action on August 13 after e dey clear according to them say FG no wan implement the agreement e get with the academic body.

But according to senator Ngige him say FG dey work round the clock to ensure say them resolve the issues as soon as possible.
